Electricians Illuminate New July Fourth Traditions

Fireworks, a staple of Fourth of July celebrations from coast to coast, light up the sky in breathtaking, colorful displays. Audiences watch as they build up to the grand finale, dazzling and booming through the air with mesmerizing variety. It’s a sight – and a tradition – nobody would want to miss.

But did you know that, on average, 280 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month surrounding the July Fourth holiday? Or that fireworks cause nearly 18,500 reported fires every year?

So don’t be surprised if you start seeing more celebrations take on a new approach to this holiday entertainment. Some towns have chosen to replace their traditional firework displays for something just as electric, but with a little less spark.

Laser shows!

Multiple Colorado cities, including Steamboat Springs and Aspen, have officially cancelled their traditional Fourth of July fireworks displays, opting for less risky entertainment. The dangers associated with fireworks, including the increased drought-related risk of wildfires, outweighed the degree of amusement for these communities.

Steamboat Springs will kick off the holiday with an elaborate laser show presented by the Las Vegas Lasers, lighting up the night in coordination with a DJ. One benefit of using electric lights is the ability to synchronize the various beams and rays along with the music’s beats and rhythms, creating a captivating, artistic display. Similarly, Aspen’s high-tech show will feature 50 drones, which will be seen flying around the sky, forming patriotic shapes.

Traditional fireworks may soon be known as a thing of the past because new “digital fireworks” offer just as much fun and creativity. Even on the Fourth of July, electricians and other professionals behind the scenes continue to find more innovative ways to power America’s passions.
